ASTAL Archives

On June 23, 2017, the ASTAL community gathered to celebrate the official inauguration of the ASTAL young adult literature archive collection housed in the Special Collections of James P. Adams Library.  The archive is home to manuscripts, drafts, teaching materials, and historical artifacts documenting ASTAL’s activity since its inception.  The archive is open to educators, writers, and students.

A highlight of our luncheon was presenting the two newest recipients of the ASTAL Book of the Year with their awards: Peter Johnson 2015 for Out of Eden and emily m. danforth 2016 for The Miseducation of Cameron Post

Marlene Lopes, Special Collections Librarian, offered invaluable support and expertise preparing both our archive and this event.  Here, she shares information about the Special Collections of Adams Library

Another highlight of the day was an author panel focusing on the significance of setting in young adult literature, a concept very special to ASTAL living in this rich literary UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_411d locale.  Our panel participants were Janet Taylor Lisle, Liza Ketchum, Kimberly Newton Fusco, Karen Day, emily danforth, and Peter Johnson, moderated by Orrin Hanratty.
